The London International Boat Show returns with a splash to ExCeL from 9-18 January 2009, marking 55 years of bringing the best of boating to the nation's capital. Opened in 1965 and named after the French actress who made her name locally, the theatre stages local touring shows, of which many transfer to the West End. Ballet, opera and regular children's events, along with comedy, contemporary dance, music and pantomimes are all staged here. | Kempton Racecourse, Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, 0870 8333490 Kempton racecourse holds jump and flat races throughout the year, but for something a little different, around twice a month on a Wednesday night they hold race evenings and afterwards either hold a disco or have a band playing. The flagship race of the course is the annual King George VI Steeple Chase on Boxing Day. In addition to the Wednesday night meetings, Kempton holds race meetings at least once a month. | Hampton Court Ice Rink, Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey, 0208 241 9818 The temporary outdoor ice rink at Hampton Court Palace will be up and running from the 30th November - 11th January 2009. Its location in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace, in front of the palace is quite spectacular and is open generally from 10am to 10pm. Pre-booking is advised as it does get very busy, and the session lasts one hour. Ice-skating is subject to varying weather and ground conditions. | The Mayflower, Southampton, Hampshire, 02380 711811 The Mayflower is one of the largest theatres in the South, and is one of the three most successful regional threatres in the UK. Touring musicals, many direct from the West End, Opera, Ballet, Music and comedy, are all staged at the Mayflower.
