Lainston House Hotel is a glorious hotel surrounded by beautiful manicured gardens, rolling woodland and breathtaking views, just a couple of miles outside the historical city of Winchester. The most striking feature within the grounds is the avenue of lime trees. Planted circa 1716 as a 19th century gentlemen’s vista rather than as an entrance way, the avenue is the longest line of limes in England. In addition, there is the 12th century chapel ruin, which is still consecrated ground with a beautiful font and ancient burial stones.

This is an awarding winning hotel, and amongst those awards are the amazing 3 AA Rosettes for The Avenue Restaurant. The Avenue is an intimate, elegant restaurant for lunch or dinner, serving ostensibly English cooking with a modern twist, and is complemented every evening with a superb tasting menu tempting all palates and tastes.

In the summer, eat on the pretty Indian stone terraces, however eating al fresco is extended with gigantic umbrellas and heaters so summers seem endless.

Order a luxury picnic hamper from the kitchen, borrow a rug from reception and saunter down to the beautiful avenue of lime trees to the seat at the bottom. For gentle exercise, why not venture to the croquet lawn, or for something a little more strenuous take advantage of the well-quipped gym.

There are plenty of comfy nooks and stylish crannies to sit and enjoy a more intimate supper, snack or a glass of champagne, whether it’s in the magnificent yet cosy drawing room complete with crackling log fire and stunning views, or a cunning spot in the Cedar Bar, an ideal place to read, chat or have a quiet drink. Choose from a selection of selection of traditional board games, giant Jenga and scrabble, or pluck a book off one of the bookshelves and curl up in front of the fire. Traditional afternoon tea served daily.

Lainston House has attracted the likes of Roger Moore, Michael Caine, Jenny Seagrove, Mariah Carey and Sting and more recently nearby residents Madonna and Guy Ritchie. It has even hosted two US presidents! George Bush Senior regularly enjoys the fabulous fishing and fine dining whilst President Carter stayed to watch one of our outdoor plays on the lawns. In fact, George Bush Senior once famously commented that the Lainston Martini was: “the best martini he’s ever had.”

All of the 50 bedrooms are individually styled and designed so that no two are the same. Each room also has a pillow menu so you can choose the type of pillow to suit you and calming lavender sleep balm is placed on your pillow at turn down.
