| Hampton Court Palace, Hampton Court, Surrey, 0870 7527777 Hampton Court Palace was built by Thomas Wolsey between 1515-1521, but was later forced to hand over the palace to Henry VIII, after falling from favour with the King. Henry VIII went on to overhaul the Tudor sections of the Palace, and later William III added further wings. Hampton Court Palace is steeped in history, and the gardens hold the world famous Maze. |

A new glass house has recently been added, the size of ten tennis courts, and positioned beside a new lake within the grounds, allowing visitors to view rare and difficult to grow species in one of three climate zones. The Plant Centre has over 10,000 different plants on sale, and a separate shop that sells a whole range of gifts. |

A place of grace and beauty, set in 1,400 acres of Surrey countryside, the house exhibits many fine works of art including paintings, tapestries and paneling. Set in 400 acres of park and woodland, of which 16 acres are landscaped gardens and include terraces, woodland gardens, an Italian Garden, a grotto and stone stairs. Garden tours are often available and last 25 minutes. |

| Guildford Castle & Grounds, Guildford, 01483 444750 The castle dates back to around 1066, beginning life as a Norman motte with a wooden castle, which was later replaced by stone. In the 13th century King Henry VII made improvements and the castle became known as a palace but after his death fell into ruin. Guildford Council bought the ruins in the 19th century and tower and other walls were restored, the grounds turned into a park, and opened to the public. In 2004 new features were discovered and the roof and first floor and were rebuilt. The castle is now open to the public, with a spiral staircase leading to a viewing platform. |
