Hampton Court Palace was built by Thomas Wolsey between 1515-1521, but was later forced to hand over the palace to Henry VIII, after falling from favour with the King.  Henry VIII went on to overhaul the Tudor sections of the Palace, and later William III added further wings.  Hampton Court Palace is steeped in history, and the gardens hold the world famous Maze.

Sport for Kings with Anne Boleyn 28th-30th August. Love is in the air as Queen Anne prepares for a summer's day of festivities. When the King's talent at sport is challenged, a series of contests are set up to prove who is really the best knight. Tudor sporting events such as falconry and fencing will enliven the palace throughout the bank holiday weekend.

Kew Palace is more like a home than a palace, being the smallest of the English palaces.  The Palace was reopened in 2006, following a ten year closure for physical restoration and the renovation of the draperies, and other fabric decor.

Loseley Park was built in the 1560s for Elizabeth I to stay in, but has been in the More-Molyneaux family for nearly 500 years.  A place of grace and beauty, set in 1,400 acres of Surrey countryside, the house exhibits many fine works of art including paintings, tapestries and paneling.  There are three gardens, one of which has over 1,000 old fashioned roses.

Set in 300 acres beside the banks of the River Thames, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew,has much to see all year round.  Guided walking tours are available, but those wishing to wander by themselves can see the arboretum, water features, rock garden, pagoda, the world's largest and most famous Glass House, the Palm House and the Temperate House. 
Guildford Castle & Grounds, Guildford, 01483 444750

The castle dates back to around 1066, beginning life as a Norman motte with a wooden castle, which was later replaced by stone.  In the 13th century King Henry VII made improvements and the castle became known as a palace but after his death fell into ruin.  Guildford Council bought the ruins in the 19th century and tower and other walls were restored, the grounds turned into a park, and opened to the public.  In 2004 new features were discovered and the roof and first floor and were rebuilt.  The castle is now open to the public, with a spiral staircase leading to a viewing platform.

Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey, 01932 857381

Brooklands dates back to 1907, and has since built up an impressive history in motor sport, motorcycles and aviation, and now houses the motor sport and aviation museum.  Brooklands can boost many firsts including having the world's first purpose built motor racing circuit. There are 30 aircrafts on site, displaying the story of aviation, and a Concorde is also on view here.

The museum of past village life is set in 10 acres of garden and woodlands, incorporating 160 years of farming from 1800 to 1960.  Purpose-built and reconstructed historical rural buildings are on view and include a chapel, village hall, cricket pavilion, and school room.  Also to see is the Arboretum with 100 species of tree.

The museum was founded in 1898 and is housed in a 17th century building beside Guildford Castle.  Housed in the museum is the largest collection of archaeology, local history and needlework in Surrey. Regular exhibitions are held and there are children’s activities.

Historic building dating back to the 17th century, that is now an art gallery.  House features include decorated plaster ceilings, wrought iron balcony, panelled rooms and an ornately carved oak and elm staircase.  Art Exhibitions are held here throughout the year.
