Hampton Court Ice Rink, Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey, 0208 241 9818

The temporary outdoor ice rink at Hampton Court Palace will be up and running from the 30th November - 11th January 2009.  Its location in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace, in front of the palace is quite spectacular and is open generally from 10am to 10pm.  Pre-booking is advised as it does get very busy, and the session lasts one hour. Ice-skating is subject to varying weather and ground conditions.

One of the largest privately owned vineyards in Europe, with 265 acres of vines planted on the Surrey Hills.  Chateux style visitor centre with a restaurant and gift shop.  Learn about the process of wine making during the cinema tour and tasting, or on the vineyard train touring the vines, or on the indoor wine experience.

Burns Night: Mark Burns Night this year with a traditional evening of entertainment including a four-course meal and bagpipes in the Denbies Cellars on the 23rd January.

Race meetings at least twice a month, and evening meetings from May to August.  Sandown Racecourse was once the Queen Mother's favourite racecourse.  With good views from the stands of the racecourse and paddocks, Sandown is good place to go racing.  Jump and flat races take place throughout the year, and during the summer, evening gala events with bands playing after the racing also take place.

Hire a narrow boat for the day and sail along the River Wey, taking in the beautiful countryside, historic buildings, and maybe even a pub or two. The purpose built narrow boats take up to 10 people.  Tuition given prior to setting off.  Alternatively, take out a rowing boat, canoe or punt for just one hour or the whole day.
Hog's Back Brewery, Tonham, 01252 783000

Brewing beer since 1992, Hog's Back now brew 140 barrels (40,000 pints), a week, supplying 500 outlets.  Visit their shop where you can choose from their own ales, or hundreds of bottled bears.   Alternatively,  take a tour of the brewery, housed in 16th century farm buildings, and sample the beer throughout the excursion.  Tours have to be booked in advance.

For something a little different, trek through the beautiful Surrey hills with a llama.  Choose from a basic walk, or various different packages that include champagne walks, picnics and barbeques, to name but a few.  There are also opportunities to adopt a llama.

Adventure Balloons, Hartley Wintney, 01252 844222

Fly up to 300ft across the South East of England in a balloon.  Flights last around an hour and distance covered is anything between two to twenty miles, depending on the wind!  Adventure balloons are based in Hampshire, but flights can be taken across the South East in Hampshire, Surrey, Oxfordshire, Kent, Berkshire and Sussex.

For a different day out, why not go on a Steam Dreams train journey.  The steam train return day trips travel to various destinations in Great Britain, particularly in the South including Bath, Bristol, Chester, Warwick, Exeter, York and Oxford, to name but a few.  Tickets are available in standard class carriages, first class and in luxurious dining carriages.  Light snacks and cold platters are available to buy in standard and first class carriages, but for a real treat why not dine in the luxury dining carriage where travellers are served with breakfast or brunch on the outward journey and a four course meal on return. Trains leave London Kings Cross, Waterloo or Victoria and depending on the destination, some stations just outside London.
Amateur Horse Racing, Point-to-Point, South East, 0207 152 000

Point-to-Point racing is amateur steeplechase racing, often held on farm land, throughout the South East.  They are great basic racing events where you can often drive close up to the track and have a picnic, and are fun for the whole family.  The season runs from December to June with events mostly taking place at weekends. Most of the races are 3 miles with a minimum of 18 fences.  Horses that start of as amateurs at point-to-points often go on to become good National Hunt racehorses.

Kempton racecourse holds jump and flat races throughout the year, but for something a little different, around twice a month on a  Wednesday night they hold race evenings and afterwards either hold a disco or have a band playing.  The flagship race of the course is the annual King George VI Steeple Chase on Boxing Day.  In addition to the Wednesday night meetings, Kempton holds race meetings at least once a month.

Next flat race meetings Tuesday 6th & Wednesday 7th January.  Lanzarote HurdLe Day 10th January.

Headley Clay Pigeon Shooting Club, Headley, Epsom, 0208 686 2126

Established 15 years, the Headley Clay Pigeon Shooting Club holds shooting days two to three times a month on a Saturday.  A friendly, family club there is shooting for novices and the experienced alike, with a selection of tuition packages, two practice areas and a 60 English Sporting layout and 25 Down the Line.

Shooting has taken place at home of the National Shooting Centre since the late 19th century.  The centre offers world class clay shooting facilities and hosts international competitions.  Set in 3,000 acres of Surrey heathland, the centre has various facilities as well as master classes and tuition for all clay disciplines, whether novice or experienced.
